If you’d like to learn to play the bassoon, I’d be happy to teach you at the municipal music school in Cologne or Bonn.
Mundstückbau (Rohrbau) / mouthpiece construction (reed making)
Für einzelne Stammkunden und Schüler stelle ich noch regelmäßig Rohre her. Da ich aber neben meinen anderen Tätigkeiten nur noch begrenzt Zeit für den Rohrbau habe, kann ich leider keine neuen Bestellungen für Rohre annehmen. Gerne biete ich aber Privatunterricht im Rohrbau an (auch Online oder als Workshop in der Gruppe möglich). Bitte kontaktieren Sie mich gerne bei Bedarf.
I still regularly make reeds for a few regular customers and students. However, since I have limited time for reed-making alongside my other activities, I’m afraid I can’t accept any new orders for reeds. I’m happy to offer private lessons in reed-making (also available online or as a group workshop), though. Please feel free to contact me if you’re interested.
Über mich / about me
Yumi Deger geb. Matsumoto ist in Japan geboren und aufgewachsen. Dort nahm sie von 2000 bis 2006 bei Prof. Masayuki Okamoto (Solofagottist Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra) Fagottunterricht. Anschließend begann sie ihr Bachelorstudium an der Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music bei Motoko Kawamura (Solofagottist New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra), welches sie im Jahr 2010 erfolgreich abschloss.
Für ihr Masterstudium kam sie 2010 nach Deutschland, wo sie in 2014 einen Master of Music im Solofach Fagott bei Prof. Georg Klütsch an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (HFMT) abschloss. Im Jahr 2017 folgte ein auf Orchesterspiel spezialisierter Masterabschluss an der HFMT und dem Orchesterzentrum NRW bei Valentino Zucchiatti (Solofagottist Teatro alla Scala, Mailand). Im Anschluss studierte sie noch bis 2020 im Studiengang Konzertexamen mit Hauptfach Fagott bei Prof. Ulrich Hermann (Solofagottist Staatsoper Stuttgart) an der Universität Mainz. Seit 2026 studiert Yumi Deger zudem Barockfagott am Königlichen Konservatorium Brüssel bei Prof. Javier Zafra mit dem Ziel Bacchelor Alte Musik.
Yumi Deger ist Lehrkraft an der Ludwig-van-Beethoven Musikschulen Bonn und der Rheinischen Musikschule Köln sowie Lehrbeauftragte für Fagott-Mundstückbau (Rohrbau) an der Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Außerdem ist sie als Fagottistin in zahlreichen Orchestern und Ensembles eine gefragte Aushilfe. Ihre Schülerinnen und Schüler nehmen regelmäßig mit Erfolg beim Wettbewerb Jugend Musiziert teil.
Den Rohrbau erlernte sie bereits im Alter von 15 Jahren von ihrem ersten Lehrer Prof. Masayuki Okamoto. Wegen ihres Geschicks und ihrer Erfahrung, von der Auswahl des Materials über die Fertigung der Rohre bis hin zur Fein- und Nachjustierung, wurde sie über die Jahre zur gefragten Herstellerin von Mundstücken und auch Dozentin für den Rohrbau.
Yumi Deger born Matsumoto was born and raised in Japan. There, she studied bassoon with Prof. Masayuki Okamoto (principal bassoonist of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra) from 2000 to 2006. She then began her bachelor’s degree at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music under Motoko Kawamura (principal bassoonist of the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra), which she successfully completed in 2010.
She came to Germany in 2010 to pursue her master’s degree, and in 2014 she earned a Master of Music in bassoon performance under Prof. Georg Klütsch at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HFMT). In 2017, she earned a master’s degree specializing in orchestral performance from the HFMT and the Orchestra Center NRW under Valentino Zucchiatti (principal bassoonist at La Scala, Milan). She then continued her studies until 2020 in the concert exam program, majoring in bassoon under Prof. Ulrich Hermann (principal bassoonist at the Stuttgart State Opera) at the University of Mainz. Since 2026, she has also been studying baroque bassoon at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under Prof. Javier Zafra, with the goal of earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Music.
Yumi teaches at the Ludwig van Beethoven Music School in Bonn and the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne, and serves as a lecturer in bassoon mouthpiece making (reed making) at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf. She is also a sought-after substitute bassoonist in numerous orchestras and ensembles. Her students regularly compete successfully in the Jugend Musiziert competition.
She learned the art of reed-making at the age of 15 from her first teacher, Prof. Masayuki Okamoto. Thanks to her skill and experience – ranging from material selection and reed production to fine-tuning and adjustment—she has become a sought-after maker of mouthpieces and a lecturer on reed-making over the years.
